An inventory clerk is responsible for recording purchases, maintaining a database, performing physical counts of inventory, reconciling actual stock counts to computer-generated reports, receiving and delivering goods, restocking items as necessary, labeling shelves, and processing and/or approving invoices for payment.
An inventory clerk can progress to roles such as material handler, technician, and eventually operations manager.
The qualification for an inventory clerk in the UK is a high school diploma or equivalent, along with two years of general clerical and inventory record keeping experience. Specific skills required include computer data entry experience and proficiency in MS Office Suite, as well as the ability to communicate orally and in writing.
