It is also beneficial to consider obtaining a degree in a related field. Once you have gained experience, you can become an independent mortician and expand your network. It is important to have sensitivity and understanding, as well as strong customer service, organizational, and business skills.
Morticians in the UK prepare deceased individuals for wakes, funerals, and interment. They do this by embalming, dressing, cosmetically enhancing, and placing them in a casket. In smaller funeral homes, the funeral director may also perform the duties of a mortician.
To work in a mortuary in the UK as a mortician or mortuary technician, you need to complete a two-year training program to become an Anatomical Pathology Technician (APT). This training is done in a workplace and upon completion, you will receive a certificate.
