Practice Now »To become a forest ranger in the UK, you need relevant experience in countryside or conservation management and/or appropriate qualifications such as an apprenticeship, a Bachelor's degree, or HND in a relevant discipline. You also need a passion for wildlife, the outdoors, and educating others, as well as a full UK driving license.
You need a GCSE Grade 4 (or C grade) in English and Maths to be a National Trust ranger in the UK. Previous experience or lots of qualifications are not necessary, but volunteering can give you an idea of the role. The National Trust will support you in gaining these qualifications if you don't have them already.
To become a park ranger in the UK, you typically need some GCSEs including English and maths or equivalent for an intermediate apprenticeship. For a higher or degree apprenticeship, you will need 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) and A levels or equivalent.
