You also need previous experience in supporting children of relevant age and a fluent level of English, both spoken and written.
A pre-school assistant is responsible for supervising children during sessions and working as part of a team under the direction of the manager. They provide safe, high quality education and care for young children attending the setting.
The role of a preschool assistant in the UK is to act as a keyworker to a small group of children, working closely with parents/carers to ensure individual needs are met, and to be responsible for observations and record keeping relating to the progress and development of key children.
Skills needed for a nursery assistant include a good level of literacy and numeracy, childcare qualifications such as NVQ or BTEC, and some experience in childcare, whether it be voluntary or paid. Employers may also ask for GCSEs or equivalent qualifications.
